Description

Something more cubist This graphite pencil drawing 'Berg en Dal' – 30-10-23 is my next in the series of the same name. By doing the last one, I really found my rhythm. This one was more impressionistic than cubist but I don't see any drawback in it. I like the result nevertheless. However, a previous drawing has persisted in my mind, a much more abstract landscape. It's like that, from a more realistic approach to the abstract. Years ago, I also drew a cubist forest in the same municipality. It turns out I found the perfect reference photo. That is why I was very eager to transform it into something beautiful. Sparkling diamonds You see, last weekend, I went to the real place. I took photos of wonderful hills with autumn-colored trees. Not the photo above however. I took that one in summer. It is in my ideas folder on my computer, still waiting to be used. The real landscape was full of foliage structures. I think it is somewhere between the Jan Dommer van Polderveldtsweg and the Boterberg. Although the leaves and light are scattered on a narrow path along the hills with large trees marking it. They looked like sparkling diamonds waiting for me to tear them with a pencil. Blinded by the light My cubist interpretation of the Valley of the Philosophers of 2015 was done in the same style. Personally, I think this one could be more refined. There are many cubist planes certainly, but when I compared them, I see differences. The planar distribution is more subtle without becoming fragmented. That is what you see when walking on a leafy path anyway. Sometimes, you are almost blinded by the light, troubled by the agitated patterns of light and dark. What do you say, does it lean more towards the impressionistic side than cubist? It's not that I care much.

Corné Akkers

Netherlands  • 1969

Presentation

Corné Akkers was born in 1969 in Nijmegen, Netherlands. He grew up in a Bohemian environment, during the 70's. This ideal creative atmosphere inspired him and gave him the desire to paint. He trained in painting and drawing.

In his paintings, the artist explores the nude and portrait with several types of analysis and treatments, and doesn't lose sight on how light plays an important role. He combines the figurative style and the quest for abstraction, he plays around with colors and creates vast optical illusions. Not only is his work unique, his paintings shout out cubism but also surrealism and fauvism. They are so hypnotic that they are able to capture the look.

While working as a painter, Akkers also teach art at Voorburg in Netherlands. His paintings have been exhibited several times and sold to art collectors, all around the world.
