On Hansen   New & remarkable Artists

Oil wax, acrylic, graphite, organic ink, and crayon on Awagami paper.

On Hansen originally from Scandinavia is the pseudonym used by the photographer Cristian Hunter, a third-generation artist who has spent most of his professional career as a photographer. His work bears the traces of lived experiences, exploring the possibilities of formal abstraction, and seeking an organic experience between space and time through painting and photography. "There is no longer a single idea explaining everything, but an infinite number of essences giving meaning to an infinite number of objects. The world comes to a stop, but also lights up.” ― Albert Camus, The Myth of Sisyphus and Other Essays

This artwork captivates with its simplicity and texture, featuring vertical drips and streaks that evoke a sense of organic fluidity. The muted beige background serves as an understated canvas, allowing the white, linear patterns to command attention. These lines vary in thickness and opacity, suggesting spontaneous movement and natural phenomena, like rainfall on a window or cascading streams. The piece’s subtlety is its strength, drawing viewers into a meditative exploration of texture and variation. The work challenges the observer to find beauty in the minimal and the abstract, as it blurs the line between intentional design and the randomness of nature. Its unique ability to evoke different interpretations makes it a compelling focal point for reflection and discussion.
