Description
This work presents a stylized portrait that fuses vibrant colors and geometric shapes. The background, a bold blend of black, red, and yellow tones, highlights the central figure's pale, elongated face. The eyes, outlined in a pronounced vermillion, express an enigmatic intensity. A blue headdress, adorned with gold motifs, gives the subject an almost regal allure. At the left edge, a stylized plant in blue and gold adds a contrasting natural element. Visible textures and mixed media enrich the work's depth, evoking both modern and tribal influences. The artist plays with contrasts of color and form, creating a captivating visual tension. This painting appeals with its harmony between tradition and abstraction, offering a striking and original interpretation of classical portraiture.
Presentation
I was born in Saigon, Vietnam. I live and work in Charente-Maritime. I sculpt imaginary characters in stone using the direct carving technique which was transmitted to me in the René Coutelle workshop in Paris. It changed my way of sculpting, my relationship with the material as well as the act of creating. It is at the origin of a new inspiration allowing me to move away from conventional figuration. This allows me to become one with the stone and in this controlled letting go, to animate its apparent inertia, shine after shine, so that its echo responds to my different inner echoes.
I try to translate a vision of reality which takes into account the natural specificities of the block of stone. In this “reorganization of the mineral", I try to account through a dynamic back and forth, this relationship between outside and inside and this in a relationship of proximity or shift, of rupture.
