Description
This oil painting presents a powerful vision of disintegration. Dramatic brushstrokes create a sense of violent motion. Grey and white tones dominate the composition. They evoke a stormy atmosphere or a crumbling architectural landscape. A sudden splash of deep red breaks the monochromatic palette. This focal point suggests a lingering vitality or a tragic remnant amidst the ruins.
The artist blends abstraction with symbolic depth. He uses a vigorous technique to blur the line between figurative references and raw energy. The composition feels both chaotic and structured. it mirrors the tension between order and collapse.
As an educator and practitioner in Georgia, the artist explores themes of mythology and historical memory. This artwork translates those concepts into a gestural language. Each layer of paint adds to the psychological weight of the scene. The surface is tactile and layered. It guides the eye through a fragmented space where nature and ruin coexist. The final result is a meditative reflection on fragility and the passage of time.
Presentation
Gia Khutsishvili was born in Tbilisi, Georgia, on July 18, 1966, into a family of artists. He graduated from the Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts in 1989. Since 1990, Khutsishvili has been engaged in academic and pedagogical activities at the Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts, where he has taught and contributed to the institution's educational programs. He has also taught painting and delivered lectures at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. Over the course of more than three decades, Khutsishvili has developed a sustained artistic practice alongside his academic, research, and cultural activities. He has participated in and contributed to numerous exhibition projects and cultural events and has been involved in the preparation of publications, books, and art albums. His professional activities also include research and translation. Khutsishvili occupies a distinctive position within the generation of Georgian artists that emerged in the 1990s. His practice is characterized by a sustained engagement with abstraction, symbolism, and metaphor, with mythological themes and imagery constituting an important component of his artistic vocabulary. Through these elements, his work explores questions of perception, interpretation, and the relationship between figurative references and abstract forms. Metaphor plays a fundamental role in Khutsishvili's artistic approach, functioning as a structural principle through which images, symbols, and meanings are brought into dialogue. His works reflect a consistent interest in developing an individual visual language grounded in abstraction while remaining connected to cultural, historical, and mythological references. Khutsishvili's works are held in museum collections and private collections in Georgia and internationally.
