Description
Oil on canvas
This oil painting captures a fragmented vision of a mountain scene. The artist utilizes thick, impasto layers to build a tactile surface. Bold strokes of white and blue clash with earthy ochre tones. These colors create a powerful tension between light and shadow. The composition balances figurative hints with a strong move toward abstraction.
The gesture is spontaneous and energetic. It reflects a deep mastery of texture and spatial depth. Every brushstroke adds a rhythmic quality to the scene. This approach transforms a traditional landscape into a symbolic exploration of perception. Elements of the environment dissolve into an emotional atmosphere. The artwork avoids literal representation to favor a sensory experience. It demonstrates a sophisticated dialogue between form and void. The floating white masses suggest sun-drenched peaks or shifting clouds. Deep indigo accents anchor the composition and provide structural contrast. The result is a vibrant study of light playing across an irregular terrain.
Presentation
Gia Khutsishvili was born in Tbilisi, Georgia, on July 18, 1966, into a family of artists. He graduated from the Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts in 1989. Since 1990, Khutsishvili has been engaged in academic and pedagogical activities at the Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts, where he has taught and contributed to the institution's educational programs. He has also taught painting and delivered lectures at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. Over the course of more than three decades, Khutsishvili has developed a sustained artistic practice alongside his academic, research, and cultural activities. He has participated in and contributed to numerous exhibition projects and cultural events and has been involved in the preparation of publications, books, and art albums. His professional activities also include research and translation. Khutsishvili occupies a distinctive position within the generation of Georgian artists that emerged in the 1990s. His practice is characterized by a sustained engagement with abstraction, symbolism, and metaphor, with mythological themes and imagery constituting an important component of his artistic vocabulary. Through these elements, his work explores questions of perception, interpretation, and the relationship between figurative references and abstract forms. Metaphor plays a fundamental role in Khutsishvili's artistic approach, functioning as a structural principle through which images, symbols, and meanings are brought into dialogue. His works reflect a consistent interest in developing an individual visual language grounded in abstraction while remaining connected to cultural, historical, and mythological references. Khutsishvili's works are held in museum collections and private collections in Georgia and internationally.
