Description
This abstract composition vibrates with raw energy. A dominant grey expanse serves as a muted stage for a sudden burst of intensity. Impasto techniques create a tactile surface. Thickets of ochre and deep gold erupt from the center. These warm tones clash elegantly against the neutrality of the background.
Splotches of white and crimson add rhythmic accents across the canvas. The application is visceral. Paint is layered and scraped to reveal hidden depths. A cool blue current anchors the lower edge. This contrast evokes a sense of organic decay or celestial birth.
The movement is explosive yet contained. Every stroke suggests a momentary capture of chaos. The play between matte surfaces and glossy peaks adds a sophisticated dimension to the viewing experience. The piece balances structural weight with ethereal lightness. It invites a meditative gaze into its textural complexity. Light dances across the raised pigments. The composition culminates in a delicate spray of droplets that fade into the surrounding grey.
Presentation
Graziano Rey, born in Turin in 1953, is a multifaceted artist. After an artistic collaboration with his brother Francesco and the master Lorenzo Alessandri during the "Soffitta Macabra" period, he dedicated years to figurative art while simultaneously pursuing a career in music.
From 1982 to 1987, he established himself as a writer of television theme songs, including the famous Buona Domenica and I Ragazzi della III C. He continued his career as a singer-songwriter, winning the Rino Gaetano award and the Viareggio award in 1991-1992.
Rey also appeared on numerous television shows as a commentator on the Maurizio Costanzo Show and as an actor in Alberto Silvestri's Candid Camera. His versatility extended to writing, with the story 3001 Spooky su Jork II, and acting, in the film In camera mia.
He later moved to the Tonga Islands, continuing his dedication to painting. Among his recent activities, a notable highlight is his participation in the 57th Venice Biennale (2017) with the work "Moloc" at the Palazzo degli Armeni, an exhibition later reprised in Palermo and Vicenza.
