Description
This abstract composition vibrates with raw energy. A heavy impasto technique creates a rugged topography across the canvas. Earthy ochre tones dominate the upper realm. They evoke sun-drenched soil or ancient stone. A sharp horizontal contrast splits the view. A luminous streak of turquoise and white cuts through the center. This luminous band suggests a distant horizon or a glimpse of water. Below, a deep crimson tide crashes forward. The red hues feel visceral and grounded. They ground the ethereal light above. Sparse, dark linear accents pierce the surface. These organic marks add a rhythmic tension. They pull the eye across the textured void. The interplay of warmth and coolness creates a balanced tension. Every brushstroke reveals a physical commitment to the material. The artwork transforms a flat surface into a tactile landscape. Light dances across the ridges of the paint. It highlights the contrast between the airy sky and the dense earth. The composition concludes with subtle, dark undertones at the base.
Presentation
Graziano Rey, born in Turin in 1953, is a multifaceted artist. After an artistic collaboration with his brother Francesco and the master Lorenzo Alessandri during the "Soffitta Macabra" period, he dedicated years to figurative art while simultaneously pursuing a career in music.
From 1982 to 1987, he established himself as a writer of television theme songs, including the famous Buona Domenica and I Ragazzi della III C. He continued his career as a singer-songwriter, winning the Rino Gaetano award and the Viareggio award in 1991-1992.
Rey also appeared on numerous television shows as a commentator on the Maurizio Costanzo Show and as an actor in Alberto Silvestri's Candid Camera. His versatility extended to writing, with the story 3001 Spooky su Jork II, and acting, in the film In camera mia.
He later moved to the Tonga Islands, continuing his dedication to painting. Among his recent activities, a notable highlight is his participation in the 57th Venice Biennale (2017) with the work "Moloc" at the Palazzo degli Armeni, an exhibition later reprised in Palermo and Vicenza.
