Description
Burgundy Iris in Golden Light combines rich shades of burgundy, wine, plum and rose, with a luminous golden center drawing the eye into the heart of the flower. Soft tonal transitions and expressive contours give the large-scale petals depth and a distinctive decorative character, reflecting the artist’s approach to decorative impressionism. The painting incorporates fine art pigments by Kremer Pigmente, including Florentine earth pigments, connecting traditional European materials with contemporary painting. Gold, rose gold and pearlescent accents shimmer across the petals, changing subtly with the light. A partially gilded background enhances this effect, creating an elegant contrast between velvety colors and metallic reflections, giving the composition a precious, jewel-like quality.
Series: The Sign of Iris — Giglio
The Sign of Iris is a painting series dedicated to Florence and its artistic heritage. The iris holds a special place in Florentine history. Traditionally associated with the city's iconic emblem, the Giglio Fiorentino, it has represented Florence since medieval times and remains a distinctive symbol of its cultural identity. In this series, the iris appears not merely as a botanical subject, but as a cultural symbol shaped by memory, architecture, and time. Each painting offers a unique interpretation through variations in color, light, and composition. Drawing inspiration from the decorative clarity of early Renaissance painting, the artist combines expressive contours, harmonious colors, and a contemporary visual language. The iris becomes a symbol of inner balance, timeless beauty, and the enduring spirit of Florence.
