Description
Painted in 1961, this work by Louttre.B draws inspiration from monumental sculptures depicting men at Boissierette, where both the artist and his father, Roger Bissière, worked. Elongated figures emerge from a softly textured beige ground, their upright silhouettes articulated in ochre, muted pink, olive green and cream. Slender reddish-brown contours and pale highlights suggest the edges and volumes of the sculpted bodies.
The painting translates these human figures into an interlocking arrangement of coloured planes, balancing their monumental presence with the fluidity of painted gesture. Rooted in a shared place of creation, it brings sculpture and painting into a close dialogue.
