Finger Drum From series Carry the Ocean, 2017

Shine Huang

This artwork is a masterful exploration of form and perception, featuring a white chalice-like shape set against a stark black background. The piece immediately commands attention with its bold use of contrast, emphasizing the central figure with a luminous glow that seems to emanate from within. This ethereal quality lends the work a sense of mystery and intrigue. The contours of the chalice are smooth and fluid, yet there is a distinct interruption where a silhouette of a rabbit appears to merge seamlessly with the structure, adding an unexpected whimsical element. This clever integration challenges the viewer to reconsider their perspective, blurring the line between object and shadow. The use of negative space is executed with precision, amplifying the dual reality of the image. The harmony between the geometric and organic forms is a testament to the artist's skill and creativity. This work stands out for its simplicity paired with conceptual depth, inviting endless interpretations and provoking thoughtful reflection on the nature of visual perception.
