“Toget'Her" exhibition

Passionate about art, the founder of the communication consulting agency BB+ and co-founder of the agency Magent'art never stops! It was in 2016 that David-Hervé Boutin launched the first edition of "Artistes à la Une", an initiative that is both artistic and socially engaged, first with Libération, then with Vogue in 2019. For the third edition, to be held from June 4 to July 4, 2021 at the Linbaie in Paris, Togeth'Her is giving 26 contemporary artists free rein to pay tribute to 26 inspiring women...

1. What is the backstory for Toget'Her? What pushed you to launch this initiative?

This initiative was created in 2015 around the time of the tragic attacks that occured at Charlie Hebdo and on November 13th. Our idea back then was to defend the freedom of expression of artists and the press by starting a dialogue. Thus "Artistes à la Une" was born! An auction was then held to fundraise for the RSF or Reporters Sans Frontières. 3 years later in 2018, the #MeToo movement began gaining ground, and so I once again collaborated withf Vogue on a project. It paid tribute to influential women throughout history, from Cleopatra and Michelle Obama to Hilma Alf Klint and Isadora Duncan. As a result, “Togeth'Her" was born!

2. How did you choose the 30 or so artists for this year's project?

That I must say was the best part for me! All year long I've been following, discovering and communicating with artists, gallery owners and schools from all over the world. All while seeking to exhibit artists of different nationalities, ages, sexes and styles, likely to appeal to the greatest number of people, who I can invite to participate in the project. I'll take this opportunity to thank them again for their support!

3. What's unique about the 2021 edition? Do you have any particular expectations?

This 2020-2021 edition has been quite rocky. Planned before the pandemic and postponed twice, it finally opened on June 4th. This year the distinctive feature is that the artists chose the muses and causes to which they want to pay tribute. All these women have an aura, a charisma and a dedication that we wanted to encourage in future generations... This year, we also wanted the exhibition to be seen by as many school groups as possible, hence the partnership with the Paris school board.

4. Does this charity project and this exhibition demonstrate your desire to challenge the position of women in our contemporary society?

Examining, through the eyes of both female and male artists, the place of women in 21st century society was very important indeed. We had done it through the centuries with the previous edition and that was just as exciting. The efforts of Isadora Duncan, Simone de Beauvoir or Josephine Baker join today those of Kamala Harris, Svetlana Aleksievitch or Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

5. How did Artsper establish itself as a key partner in the success of the project?

While the original works will be sold from June 30th to July 6th by Artcurial, it seemed obvious to us - in order to support the charities and to facilitate access to the works - to release beautiful prints numbered and signed by our artists and to offer them to a wider audience thanks to the expertise of Artsper.

6. And finally, if you were to pick a woman who inspires you, who would you choose, and why?

Numerous women have inspired me since I was very young. First of all in my own family circle, my two grandmothers were company directors and in the 60's that wouldn't have been easy. Then in a more political sphere, I was lucky enough to meet Simone Veil and Marceline Loridan. I like strong, independent and liberated women. Rediscovering through the artists of Togeth'Her the lives of Josephine Baker, Niki de Saint Phalle or Isadora Duncan has also been very inspiring for me.
