Monochrom arbeitende Künstler
Monochrome Kunst, d. h. Kunst, die nur aus einer einzigen Farbe oder einem einzigen Farbton besteht, findet sich in vielen verschiedenen Kunststilen und -bewegungen. Von abstrakten bis hin zu realistischen Werken verwenden Künstler häufig eine monochrome Farbpalette, um in ihren Werken visuelle Effekte zu erzielen. Monochrome Malerei kann beispielsweise verwendet werden, um einen Effekt von Einfachheit, Reinheit oder Ruhe zu erzeugen, indem die Ablenkung durch eine vielfältige Farbpalette ausgeschaltet wird.
Mit der Entwicklung der abstrakten Kunst in der Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts wurden abstrakte monochrome Werke immer beliebter. Neben der Ablehnung von künstlerischen Traditionen wie dem Realismus gingen diese Künstler noch einen Schritt weiter und lehnten auch die Verwendung mehrerer Farben ab. Zu den bekanntesten Beispielen für abstrakte Künstler, die in dieser Zeit monochrome Werke schufen, gehören Kasimir Malewitsch, Ad Reinhardt und Yves Klein. Kleins berühmte monochrome blaue Werke bestehen aus einer Farbe, die der Künstler selbst erfunden hatte und die er International Klein Blue nannte. Dies war ein innovativer Schritt eines Künstlers, der immer mit diesem Blauton in Verbindung gebracht wird.
