Moline, Daniel (Carlsbourg, 1948). Painter. Training in Namur in Belgium with Luc Perot and in Japan where he became a pupil of Ryû Oda. Studied calligraphy with the Zen monk Tainin Yukimura and participated in various exhibitions in Japan, where he spent sixteen years (1973-1990). Painter of large compositions, with imposing figures in a strongly graphic style, from which energy, vitality and a certain violence emerge. Expressing both tenderness and cruelty, their violence is always accompanied by a discreet tenderness and benevolence as restraint towards life. There are common features here with the calligraphy of Zen monks and the work of the Japanese painter Shôhaku. From 1990, Moline moved to Spa and exhibited in Brussels and Linéart. He has since launched into large abstract compositions in black ink on white backgrounds, "Gutta", sets of stains and various traces from which the observer will construct the meaning that suits him or that pleases him. He is currently (since 2010) working on large amber portraits on black backgrounds, distressed memories of Japan or dark creatures encountered after his return to Belgium.
