La Villart

It is an exceptional place, perched on a hill in the heart of the maquis. As for more than 20 years, the terrace offers us a breathtaking view of Calvi and the Mediterranean: we are at La Villa. Two decades during which the institution has continued to renew itself to amaze and charm its guests. But proud of its five luxury stars, of its Relais & Châteaux label, it still had to reach another dimension, to venture into a field which on this rebellious and wild island can surprise in the hotel sector: Art... And this is how “La Villart” was born. Shyly at first, (but surely!) a few artists were invited to hang their paintings in the lobby, living rooms, bedrooms. JonOne was one of the very first. A New York artist, he has, in a few years, established himself in France, becoming the most popular representative of street art. The one whose works are snapped up and sold at high prices at Artcurial or in other auction rooms. And yet 12 years ago when La Villa opened its doors to him, the bet was far from won. “What a privilege to have an open-air gallery, to be able to show my works in this Corsican light, softer, more golden, but also more dazzling, than that of New York, my city. », JonOne will then tell. Since then, each season, the Harlem painter arrives with his share of paintings... And surprises. La Villa's clients are totally on board, buying works, allowing the exhibition to evolve. “The canvases taken down are replaced by others,” explains Antoine Pinelli. Thus one of Marinetti's Doggy John now completes the flotilla of his ducks evolving in the basin. And, on the walls of the new suite, a monumental painting by JonOne coexists in shades of Corsican, beige, off-white, light gray and a photo by Revon. To bring even more dreams and poetry to those who stay here and return faithfully. And it's not over. La Villart is also perpetual development, the search for artistic continuity and certain evolution. After having brilliantly married art to the hotel industry, another aspect comes into play; charity, through the organization of openings. At the same time, the structure intends to make a name for itself in the sector and become a chain of essential galleries by establishing itself in Monaco, Saint-Tropez and Marrakech. Artists too, most of them very well known, are becoming more and more numerous. A development yes, but not under any conditions: “la Villart” nevertheless wishes to preserve what has made its reputation: the quality of its structure, focused essentially on contemporary art
