Presentation
Born 1951
Henryk Laskowski has been working as a graphic designer for the publishing industry, creating illustrations, book covers, posters, drawings and paintings during the 80’s.
In 1981, after the introduction of martial law in his native Poland, he was unable to return home from a trip to France, and that trip turned into a longer stay. The sojourn in France, and following travels to Italy, Spain, and England had an impact on his art. His inspiration comes from the surrounding reality, mass culture, film and literature. His subjects are the city, landscape, nature and people.
He also draws inspiration from photography – the camera is his notebook and his sketchbook. He uses the language of poetic metaphor in order to describe reality, and he chooses his own path of creative development. He doesn’t subscribe to any of the currents of art promoted by contemporary critcs. The artist feels a sense of kinship with pop art, photo-realism, surrealism and metaphoric realism.
He lives and works in Warsaw, Poland.
