The koala is of great significance in Aboriginal culture and art. It has always been an important figure in Aboriginal songs, dream time stories, myths, legends and totems. For instance, some ancient Aboriginal stories describe the koala's importance in the supply and safeguarding of water; while some others say that koalas have power to cause rain; but if disrespected and neglected, to cause severe droughts. Maybe the recent broad-scale drought we have been facing results from our disrespect to koalas, as well as to nature in a more general sense. It is time seriously to think of our activities resulting in climate change and pose significant threats to life on earth.
Digital artist David Dessens continues drawing attention to the significance of biodiversity and wildlife conservation with his latest artwork called Colo that is a local Aboriginal word for the koala meaning 'our little favorite.' As depicted in Aboriginal art for thousands of years in the forms of carving, rock/cave art, painting, sculpture and poetry, this time the koala is featured as the protagonist in a digital artwork through the use of digital means and latest technologies. In accordance with the sedentary nature of the koala resulting from its non-nutritive diet, Colo is a plain, serene and relaxing piece of art depicting a koala calmly sitting on a eucalyptus tree with a still night and a clear moonlit sky. It is Dessens' latest artistic call calmly inviting us to think about how we can live peacefully, respectfully, sustainably and in harmony with other species. Only then, we can save 'our little favorite' which is our only place to live: planet earth.

David Dessens (1980, Perpignan, France) is an artist who uses digital means of generative art to express his fascination with the beauty of nature. Dessens works with mathematical algorithms and patterns found in the natural world surrounding us.
He studied art in high school. It was the time Dessens started doing his kinetic metal sculptures inspired by the experimental Swiss sculptor Jean Tinguely. After graduating from high school, he went to the Art School of Perpignan for several months.
Having been disappointed by the shortcomings of education there, he dropped out of the school and continued his relentless pursuit of beauty, proportion, perfection and innovation on his own.
After his years in metal sculpture, he realized the importance of digital technologies and the new opportunities they bring. It was the time that he explored generative art while performing as a visual artist in musical events and festivals across Europe. At that time, he began to be known as Sanch in the generative art world, a nickname that refers to his Catalan roots.
As an inspiring artist, Dessens was invited to several art schools and digital festivals, such as the Royal Academy of Art in Stockholm and HyperWerk (Institute for Post-industrial Design) in Switzerland to give talks in the workshops on generative art. Some of his artworks have also appeared as featured works in several bestseller generative design books such as 'Generative Gestaltung' and 'Form+Code.'
Fascinated by nature and inspired by modern and classical art, Dessens continues to create captivating pieces in generative art.

Can I negotiate the price of an artwork?
For some artworks, you can negotiate the price. If the price of the work is negotiable, you have a “Make an offer” button under the “Buy this work” one.
To submit your offer, you must make a payment of the desired amount. Your offer will then be forwarded to the gallery, which reserves the right to accept or reject it. If your offer is accepted, it means that your order is confirmed by the gallery and they will prepare the artwork for shipment. Where can I have my order delivered?
Artsper delivers worldwide!
However, please note that once your order reaches its destination, it may be subject to VAT or other customs fees. These charges are beyond our control and you will be responsible for paying them (this is indicated at the ‘checkout’ first step).

Return and cancellation
You can return the artwork without needing to provide a reason or pay a penalty fee up to 14 days after receiving your order.
In the case that the right of withdrawal is exercised in the aforementioned time frame, the price of the artwork(s) purchased and the shipping costs will be reimbursed by us as soon as the gallery has received the artwork and notified us.
