Emmanuel Flipo

France Born in: 1958

Conceptual painter, born in 1958 in Agen, inspired in his beginnings by the “Support Surface" movement and admirer of Joseph Beuys.

A gold pioneer of memory, Emmanuel Flipo has been revisiting images and spiritual values for more than 40 years, whatever the medium or the subject, as if it was necessary to cross the spaces of the past, to accept his ghosts to access the living and to celebrate them. .

He explores the hinterlands of being, fond of the imprints and marks of time, erosions and wounds.

The indefatigable man does not want to escape his obsessions nor the contradictory worlds that inhabit him but on the contrary to deepen them in a constant introspection without complacency, relentlessly seeking the path that would allow him to extinguish and lead to great creation.

Emmanuel Flipo is a committed artist, without any attitude or thought confused because he is not part of any group or political party. A free man with a piercing spirit, resolutely protesting. He feeds on nature, draws inspiration and energy from it, forges an acute awareness of the need to defend it.

With a singular journey, imbued with convictions, intuition and lyrical poetry, the artist seeks a universal writing that would symbolize on its own the dynamic and perpetual movements of our planet and give them a kind of divine power.

Emmanuel Flipo's research turns him towards a philosophy where recovered materials serve as a support for his abstract and mixed-media paintings. He passionately declines his vision of time: marks, wear or fragments of nature for which he is committed without a safeguard.

The artist also dares to perform great. If his work - protean - is inspired by Land Art, it is to revisit the fundamental issues. Critical aesthetic work therefore, best demonstrated by the performance El Nino, performed on snow in New York in 1996. At Flipo, it is never a question of marking nature with the iron of the work of art, but with the conversely, to bring natural elements to the very city. Conservation of the scale of Land Art, of course, but reversal of its meaning.

The artist has notably produced around twenty performances on the occasion of major environmental events such as Cop 15 (Copenhagen), the inauguration of the eco-citizen House of Bordeaux, the conference “Dialogue in Humanity" (Lyon) or “No Blood for oil" (San Jose, California). Emmanuel Flipo also imagined performances around heritage, art and culture: “Occitanie" Place du Capitole in Toulouse, “Mediterranean" for 350 years of the port of Sète…
