
Biography
Mao Yan is a Chinese visual artist, born in Xiangtan, Hunan Province. A reputed member of the neo-realism movement in China, the artist has garnered critical acclaim for his oil portraiture. He employs a reduced color palette of blue and gray tones and very few brushstrokes, to create a selection of paintings that have a truly ephemeral feel.
His work has been exhibited at some of the most prestigious art fairs and galleries in Asia and across the world. Some of these include The First Academic Exhibition of Chinese Contemporary Art at the China National Museum of Fine Arts, the China Mania exhibition at Arken Museum of Modern Art in Denmark, and Longing for more – Maoyan Solo Exhibition at Shanghai Art Museum, China.
