Biography
Josef Sudek is a Czech photographer, born in 1896 in Kolín in Bohemia (modern day Czech Republic). Beginning his career as a bookbinder and later a soldier in the Czech army, Sudek eventually carved out a career for himself as a photographer, whose work largely pictorialized everyday experiences of living in Prague. The style of Sudek’s photography has been described as modernist. The artist has been praised for his famous “The Window of My Atelier” and “Labyrinths” series, both of which center on Sudek’s life in the Czech Republic.
Sudek died in 1976, and was posthumously inducted into the International Photography Hall of Fame Museum, in recognition of his contributions to European photography of the 20th century.
