Biography
Antoine Desailly is a French artist born in 1982. He lives and works in Paris. He is a graduate of the Beaux Arts in Paris.
Antoine Desailly represents patterns from reality on the pages of his yellow sketchbooks. Palm trees, soldiers, cars, clouds... again and again, until it’s too much. His light gesture becomes a trance. The absurd introduces a certain poetry in the works. Yellow, black, green, white, the color of the night, the light of the streetlights...
Influenced by the paintings of the Middle Ages and by the geometry of the colorful Persian miniatures, Antoine Desailly’s lines contain the complexities to which the vision attaches itself naturally: they take the gaze elsewhere, to things that are usually left aside and ignored.
His “waste-paintings"" are compositions made by accident: a “flâneur” of the night, the artist paints a lost daily life, floating in the canals, forgotten in the city outskirts, thrown in abandoned spaces. He brings to life still lifes, and under his sharp strokes, they are no longer “still”.
Antoine Desailly draws as a musician, a virtuoso of the media: waste-paintings, false wallpapers, walls covered with modular planks, his works are partitions that make fun of the nobility of academic painting. He brings together in harmony the trivial and the strange, the ordinary and the magnificent.
