Her father is no other than Singh Shyam, from the Gond tribe. An Indian painter, she is famous for having created a new school of art in India, The Jangarh Kalam School, referring to the artist's pictorial style which focuses on the representation of deities and animal portraits. She became known by the famous exhibition " Magicians of the Earth" which took place in Pompidou in 1989.
Japani Shyam follows the footsteps of her father while overcoming his style to stablish her very own. Her work focuses in traditional rituals and nature. She paints the forest and the animals found in it, Japani Shyam plays with the brush since her childhood.
Her talent was recognized and awarded in 1999 when she received the prize Devi Kamda at the age of 31.
