Born in 1895 in Mazarrón, southern Spain, Vivancos has lived in different trades such as docker, truck driver, house painter and glazier. He participated in the defense of Puigcerdá, on the Republican side and was forced to take refuge in France in 1938.
Under German occupation, he was put in prison which he managed to escape and entered the maquis. At the liberation, he is 50 years old, without work, without a job. To help him, he is offered to paint scarves... that is how his vocation was born.
Picasso encourages it and it is the rise to the notoriety, slow at the beginning, but absolutely certain. He paints scenes of daily life in bright colors and especially the streets and squares of small French cities. Vivancos reproduces every stone, every brick. His vividly colorful work exudes poetic poise. The paintings of Vivancos are reminiscent of Louis Vivin, another well-known naive painter. He died in Córdoba in 1972.
