Biography
Alex Gardner is an American figurative painter. He was born in California in 1987 and completed his BFA at California State University in 2011. His acrylic paintings are stark in contrast as he pairs a pastel color palette with black ink.
By creating faceless, androgynous portraits, Gardner strives to create universal representations of the human experience, as the viewer can identify with any of the anonymous subjects. Influenced by the Old Masters, Gardner seeks to recontextualise historical artistic tradition.
