Qiurui Du (b. 1994, Beijing) is a multimedia visual artist and founder of the E.E Art Group, dedicated to amplifying emerging Asian voices in the global art landscape. Du went to Parsons School of Design for BFA Illustration and Pratt Institute for MFA Painting and Drawing, where he honed his narrative-driven, camp-inflected approach to figuration.
Since his solo debut "A Bizarre Dream" at Van Der Plas Gallery (New York, 2018), Du's practice has revolved around hyper-saturated color palettes, exaggerated character design, and surreal theatricality. His signature series—"Telenovelas" (2024), "Raincoat Walkers", and the "Tear Trilogy"—probe themes of gender identity, consumer culture, and emotional intimacy by transforming everyday observations (a hushed street conversation, a fleeting reflection) into larger-than-life protagonists and stage sets.
Du's work has been featured in major exhibitions across China: EYECANDIES (Shanghai), Kuiyuan Gallery (Guangzhou), and TCCA (Xiamen), consolidating his reputation for marrying pop visuals with incisive social critique. His paintings and sculptures are held in public and private collections, and have appeared at international art fairs and Phillips Hong Kong previews.
An active cross-disciplinary collaborator, Du has partnered with WWF×Alibaba on marine conservation campaigns and designed limited-edition product lines for Daphne. Lab, 66 Plaz, and VANS. His work is regularly covered by outlets such as CanvasRebel, Al-Tiba9, and Elephant Art. In 2022, he delivered a TEDx talk in Wuxi titled "The Paradox of Art," exploring the tension between spectacle and sincerity in contemporary practice.
Du's art is often aligned with Pop Art and New Figuration, notable for its "camp" sensibility, where bubble-gum pinks and acid yellows clash with moments of uncanny melancholy. By inviting viewers onto his meticulously constructed "stage," he transforms the gallery into a communal theater: each spectator becomes both actor and audience, confronting the absurdities and vulnerabilities we otherwise conceal. As Qiurui Du continues to redefine narrative painting and installation, he remains at the forefront of a new generation reshaping how we see, feel, and perform in the ever-evolving theater of the everyday.
