Presentation
Franta was born in 1930 in Trebic (Moravia), Czechoslovakia. His childhood and adolescence were marked by the political dramas of the time.
From 1948, he studied at the School of Decorative Arts in Brno (Moldova) and The Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (where the teaching refocused on the academic purity of drawing the nude figure).
In 1958, he escaped to the West and after a agonizing stay in the refugee camps in West Germany, he finally joined Jacqueline, whom he had met during a study trip to Perugia. They married and settled in the Nice area.
The sense of exile and the encounter with early human suffering continue to live in his work. From 1968, he finally escaped the numerical "disfigurement" which constantly frames and limits ones understanding - so finally understanding the dramas of history and the human condition. The body always remains at the center of his research.
As a guest at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris for the exhibition "Mythologies Daily" he mixes with young artists such as Cueco and Klasen, who advocate a return to an effective painting, called Figuration Narrative.
Traveling extensively, he "discovered" Africa in 1980 for the first time. First the North African deserts, and then Black Africa, which reveals another civilization and the very origins of the earth perhaps.
From 1990 and to date, his art drew parrallels between the urban landscapes of the other Africa “the Bronx and Harlem".
