Thomas Van Hecke

France

It is the contradiction between the intimacy of staging, private, and public publication, that I wish to illustrate.

Biography

8 years of art studies at the Saint Luc Institute (Belgium) allowed Thomas Van Hecke to acquire a large number of techniques and know-how, anchored in his time, he draws inspiration from the world around him by playing with the influence of selfies, social networks and new technologies on our behavior.

"Today's technologies are evolving and changing our behaviors, especially since the emergence of social networks. Rather than judging the transformations that result from them and moralizing users, my work tends to represent the resulting aesthetics.

My own use of social media allows me to see the rise of a new norm, the selfie, or the self-portrait. It is the contradiction between staged, private intimacy and public publication that I wish to illustrate; that is, to depict the passage from the personal to the universal and the paradox that results from it.
