Mikhail Roginsky, born October 31, 1931 in Moscow and died July 24, 2004 in Paris, is a Russian artist recognized for his pioneering role in the contemporary Russian realism movement. His work is distinguished by a unique approach that mixes elements of everyday life with raw and authentic artistic expression.
Roginsky began his artistic training in Moscow, where he studied at the Secondary School of Fine Arts from 1943 to 1949, then at the Moscow Polygraphic Institute until 1954. The artist was deeply influenced by Russian and European art movements, but also by artists such as Kazimir Malevich and Pablo Picasso. These influences are reflected in his bold use of color and his innovative approach to subject matter and composition.
Roginsky's style is characterized by visual simplicity combined with great expressiveness. He used simple materials like cardboard and often painted everyday objects, such as doors, chairs or windows. This focus on ordinary elements, treated in an extraordinary way, has become a hallmark of his work. His color palette, often reduced to primary tones, accentuates the visual impact of his work.
Throughout his career, Roginsky has participated in numerous exhibitions both in Russia and internationally. Among the most notable were solo exhibitions at the Tretyakov Gallery in 1989 and the Russian Museum in 1990. After immigrating to France in 1978, he continued to exhibit in European galleries, expanding his influence and recognition on the international art scene.
Mikhail Roginsky is often celebrated for his originality and his ability to transform the mundane into the extraordinary. His impact on contemporary art extends beyond Russia's borders, influencing generations of artists to take a more personal and introspective approach to art. His work remains a powerful testimony to everyday life, captured with a sensitivity and strength that continues to resonate with audiences around the world.
