Cawston's work has a very painterly feel in both his use of colour and choice of subject matter. He is particularly influenced by Edward Hopper and found this very Hopperesque scene in the South of France.
The Spaces in Between series developed out of visits to Naples in Italy and Havana in Cuba, two cities whose past glories are suffused with a faded grandeur. Cawston's search for these lost spaces of distressed beauty have taken him from Bristol to Burma, Mexico to Manaus. Often with rich colours and a cinematic feel, these lost corners have an ethereal beauty.
C-type photograph with a UV-protective acrylic face mount and metal subframe. The piece is hung from the subframe and sits away from the wall. The standard acrylic has a gloss finish, a matt version is available on request. Other sizes are also available if you would like more information please enquire.

Barry Cawston's fine art photography has won numerous awards and competitions including in the British Open Art awards in 2012 and 2013, the Exeter Contemporary Open, which he won in 2007, and the Chairman's Choice Award at the RWA Photographic Open 2008 and the South West Art Prize 2010. In 2011 his piece the “Tibetan Cowboy" was a star feature of BBC2's Show Me The Monet. He is regularly commissioned by English Heritage and by international charities.
Much of Cawston's photography has both sociological and architectural elements. Ranging from breathtaking panoramas of China's changing urban landscape to the historic grandeur of Bristol Docks to the crumbling desolation of Cuban interiors, his images capture the beauty of otherwise passed over places. Shot on large format the images have a cinematic quality enhanced by Barry Cawston's subtle use of light and observation of detail.
