Joanna Sarapata, born in 1962 in Warsaw, is a Polish painter renowned for her powerful and sensual representations of the female nude. A graduate with distinction from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux‑Arts in Paris in 1986, eleven of her works were added to the institution’s archives. She trained under the guidance of Vladimir Velickovic and won the grand prize for poster design at the Paris Opera that same year. After nearly twenty years in Paris and several years in Spain, she returned to Poland and has exhibited widely across France, Spain, Monaco, Germany, the United States, Switzerland, China, and Poland.
A multidisciplinary artist, Joanna Sarapata works across painting, graphic art, poster design, and scenography, collaborating with prestigious institutions such as Cartier and architect Ricardo Bofill. Her style is rooted in figurative expressionism, combining oil on canvas, pastel, charcoal, and gold leaf, with a focus on light and emotion. Her artwork explores female strength, independence, and sensuality, influenced by Parisian ambiance, cinema, music, and literature. Her collectors include global figures such as José Carreras, Placido Domingo, Elton John, Patricia Picasso, and Rossy de Palma. Among her notable works are La vie on rose, Ecole de danse, and Black Swan.
