Also Known As Africa 2026

From 23 to 25 October 2026, AKAA (Also Known As Africa) returns to the Carreau du Temple for its 11th edition. Founded in 2016 by Victoria Mann, the fair focuses on contemporary art and design connected to Africa and its diasporas. It helps bring African and Afro-descendant artists to the international stage, with a programme that places a majority of women artists in the spotlight this year.

Photography takes centre stage at this edition with the launch of AKAA PHOTO. Featured artists include Cameroonian photographer Angèle Etoundi Essamba. Visitors will also discover a monumental installation by Senegalese artist Gabriel Dia, featuring suspended photographs printed on fabric from his Mother’s Heritage series. Works by Omar Victor Diop, Maya Inès Touam and Zanele Muholi will complete the exhibition, alongside talks and performances.
