Description
A girl and a kitten share the foreground in , an intimate drawing by Azhar Mehmood exploring the tenderness of companionship.
The kitten looks outward from a cylindrical container held in the child’s hands. Its ears, striped forehead and small paw introduce lively details, while the girl’s face remains close behind it. Their similarly attentive eyes establish a gentle connection across the composition.
Mehmood varies his handling of line and tone to distinguish the subjects. Long, curving strokes describe the girl’s hair; shorter marks articulate the kitten’s fur. Soft shading gives volume to the face and hands, while deeper tones define the container.
The arrangement of the hands gives the portrait a sense of care. Their hold brings the child and animal into a closely connected group, reinforced by the compact vertical composition.
The work leaves its narrative simple and open. Its emotional presence develops through familiar gestures: watching, holding and remaining close.

Presentation
Azhar Mehmood is a Pakistani visual artist working across hyperrealistic portraiture, pencil drawing, landscape painting and Arabic calligraphy. He began making art in childhood and has developed his practice over fourteen years.
His artistic interests centre on human expression, nature and cultural heritage. Through portraiture and drawing, he explores the descriptive possibilities of line, tone and closely observed detail. His landscapes provide a complementary space for engaging with natural forms and atmosphere.
In his Arabic calligraphy, Mehmood brings written language into dialogue with visual structure. Faith and spirituality inform this aspect of his practice, alongside an appreciation of the ornamental and compositional traditions of Islamic art.
Mehmood is also developing a body of abstract work, expanding his approach towards more intuitive expressions of emotion and responses to nature. His practice continues to evolve through the exchange between representational precision, calligraphic form and creative experimentation.
