Zhu Xinjian

This 1986 painting by Zhu Xinjian "Golden Lotus Lady with red corset" was painted by the artist in 1986. It was exhibited at the Galerie Lise Cormery in 1987 on the occasion of his personal exhibition "Zhu Xinjian and the beauty of flesh 朱新建 Erotic Art" while the artist was staying in Paris. This painting inaugurates the series of paintings known as 朱新建's Golden Lotus series. Zhu Xinjian 朱新建 (1953-2014) is a painter from the People's Republic of China, born in 1953 in Dufang, Jiangxi Province, died in Beijing in 2014. The scholarly artist is inspired by the great Chinese tradition of calligraphy and erotic art. In her book, "Post-War Art of the School of Paris", Lise Cormery writes her biography which follows. "Lise Cormery had the chance to meet him in his small studio and workshop in 1986 and to discover his art there, while he stayed for a few years in Paris. "A member of the Association of Chinese Artists, he is considered as the most important of the Chinese Post-War Literate Painters. He graduated in 1980 from the University of Nanjing where he studied Ancient Chinese Art and the classic texts of Ancient Chinese, then he became a professor there. Although he was awarded the Silver Medal for the Sixth Chinese National Art Exhibition, he was also able to illustrate children's books and create cartoons for the Shanghai Animation Film Studio and China Central Television ( CCTV). When he studied at the Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, his work was released there. He names his new series of paintings "The Golden Lotus" "Le Lotus Doré", after the erotic romance of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). When he first shows his works at an exhibition in Hubei Province, China, although exquisite, they cause a scandal.
