Biography

Betty Acquah, a prominent Ghanaian painter, is celebrated for her vibrant and intricate artworks that delve into the essence of Ghanaian womanhood. Her paintings vividly portray the trials, ambitions, celebrations, and successes of ordinary inspirational women, encapsulating their resilience and spirit.

In 2024, Acquah unveiled "Store House of Peace," an acrylic painting on canvas that beautifully captures the serenity and inner strength of women. In January 2025, Acquah introduced "Sister and Friend," a work that celebrates friendship and solidarity among women, emphasizing the importance of mutual support in female communities. The piece highlights the deep connections and understanding that bind women together, making it a powerful addition to her exploration of womanhood.

Acquah's artistic journey commenced at Wesley Girl's High and Holy Child schools in Cape Coast. She furthered her education at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, earning a first-class degree. She later pursued a Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) in painting at the same institution, following an interim course at the Tokyo School of Art in Japan. Her professional experience includes working at the Centre for National Culture in Accra, Ghana, and currently at the Berj Art Gallery in Accra.
Acquah's work is characterized by a pulsating style and a delightful color palette, addressing thought-provoking themes on social issues. She employs techniques such as pointillism, oil painting, and acrylics to create dynamic compositions that convey movement and emotion. Her paintings often depict dancing children, costumed troupes, and celebratory scenes, enveloped in countless dots of acrylic, bringing her compositions to life

Acquah has participated in numerous exhibitions both within Ghana and internationally. Notably, her first solo exhibition was featured at the Pan African Festival of Arts and Music (PAFAM) held at the Trade Fair grounds in Accra. Subsequent exhibitions at the AMAHEMA Art Gallery and collaborations with eminent Ghanaian painters have solidified her position in the art world. Her works have been showcased in countries including India, Japan, Nigeria, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States, reflecting the universality of her themes.
