Warning, rare image!
You are with a famous collector in Italy aboard one of the 3 Ferrari boats still alive out of the 4 built in history. This one is not powered by any motor. This is the 4.9L V12 that was in the 375MM Berlinetta Pinin Farina that won the first World Endurance Championship held in 1953, the start of Enzo Ferrari's reign. Alberto Ascari set the fastest lap time at the 1953 24 Hours of Le Mans but when he was in the lead 9 hours before the end, with his team-mate Villoresi, he broke his clutch. The car will later be destroyed by two other Italian drivers during the 1953 Carrera Panamericana, but will still win the championship by a short head against the Jaguars...
Four racers powered by a Ferrari engine were built in the 1950s/60s by private initiatives. Two others still exist: Arno XI (1953) and Antares (1954). The San Marco Ferrari is a "Three Points" in the 800kg class. It was commissioned by a wealthy industrialist from northern Italy and extreme adventurer.
Guido Monzino had it built in 1957 by the San Marco shipyard a racer to receive the V12 Ferrari that he recovered from the crash of the Ferrari 375 MM Berlinetta Pinin Farina 1953 at the Carrera Panamericana.
The San Marco Ferrari racer will take part in the most difficult powerboat race in Europe, the Pavia-Venizia raid on the Po river in Italy with its 4.9 Liter V12 and 340 hp which propels it to more than 200km/h.

26 copies maximum, all formats combined.

Henri Thibault

France  • 1965

I came to photography by accident. My father Jean-Pierre Thibault called me one day to suggest that I join the agency he had founded in 1962, specializing in motorsport. I had the chance to come in through the back door and learn all the facets of how a photographic press agency works.

From a small hand in the Black & White laboratory to the archives, I learned the basics of photography on the edge of automobile circuits in the 80s and 90s.

At the beginning of the significant media coverage of sport in general, the agency opened up to other disciplines. It was during this period that I was asked to deal with selling photographs of boats by organizing a "Sea" department.

After a professional break at the turn of the century, during which, among other things, I was able to restore a few cars. (NR: including the iconic Matra MS1 1965 from Beltoise), I took over the viewfinder to edit subjects for the press.

Born into a family where the automobile was its raison d'être since its genesis, I bathed all my childhood with racing cars and their history as a backdrop.

It's not the shapes and colors that interest me, it's what's behind the lens.
