Artist Statement:
I am a Canadian landscape painter that paints primarily in oils, with occasional use of watercolours, collage, acrylic and pastels. Most of my works are from places I have travelled to within Canada including Vancouver Island, Osoyoos, British Columbia, the National Parks of Banff and Jasper in Alberta. I also paint scenes of the Great Lakes including Georgian Bay and Lake Superior, and other rural scenes in Ontario where I live.
I am inspired by other artists that portray their connection to the land. In particular I am inspired by Joan Eardly, Tom Thomson, Emily Carr and Georgia O'Keefe. My style is often quick, gestural with an intuitive use of colour to reflect the emotion. My work can sometimes be semi-abstract or more representational depending on the landscape. My hope is that the viewer feels the same sense of serenity that I feel in nature.
