Jean-Marc LANGE born November 17, 1945 in Canteleu (Seine-Maritime) is a French artist, designer, painter and sculptor.
He was admitted in October 1961 to the regional school of fine arts in Rouen for his first artistic studies. His teachers are Pierre Dauphin, Mouillé, Dandeville, Lesage, Toublanc, Robert Savary, René Leleu, Jacques Ramondot.
In November 1964, he entered the studio of the painter Maurice Brianchon at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris. Selected for the competitions of the Concours de Rome, he obtained a first grand prix de Rome for painting at the end of three months in boxes for his painting Le Songe.
In January 1966, he moved into the studio, which he took over, overlooking the Bosco terrace, at the Villa Medicis for forty months.
First meetings in Rome with the painter Balthus and some residents, the sculptors Jacqueline Deyme, Philippe Thill, Louis Lutz, the engraver Brigitte Courme, Frédérique Tison, the architects Bernard Schoebel and Jean Louis Roubert. Other residents who will join later: the engraver Jean-Pierre Velly, the painter Gérard Barthélémy, the visual artists Anne and Patrick Poirier, the musicians Alain Kremski, Lucie Robert.
Jean-Marc Lange's paintings, inspired by the Roman terraces and the beaches of Ostia from 1966, develop as a long series featuring deckchairs, large pots, figures, through very drawn compositions, in warm colors, atmospheres of storms and high winds, those of sirocco or libeccio.
He made three sculptures for the city of Grand-Quevilly in the 1970s: one for the Claude-Bernard college in 1972, one for the Jean-Moulin school group in 1976 and one for the town hall esplanade in 1978 He made a sculpture and a painting for the city of Levis (Canada).
