Artwork location: France
This captivating artwork features an amalgamation of natural imagery and geometric abstraction that strikes a mesmerizing balance between the organic and the constructed. The primary element is a vivid, high-contrast photograph of a lush, green forest canopy reflected in a serene body of water. The reflections create a rich tapestry of foliage and sky, with dappled sunlight playing across the leaves and rippling water, imbuing the scene with a dynamic sense of movement and light. Intriguingly, this organic scene is overlaid with an assortment of dark, almost opaque polygons, each meticulously positioned over the image. The polygons vary in shape, dominated by hexagons and pentagons, creating a stark contrast with the natural backdrop. This deliberate juxtaposition highlights the tension and harmony between natural beauty and human-made geometry. Each polygon partially obscures the view behind it, encouraging the viewer to engage in an active process of visual exploration, piecing together the obscured natural scene. The unique interplay between the organic reflection and the geometric overlays evokes themes of perception, fragmentation, and the interface between nature and human intervention. The artist's deft use of contrast and composition demands a closer look, inviting viewers to consider the layered complexities of both the natural world and the interpretative lens through which we view it. This artwork exemplifies a masterful blend of photography and abstraction, presenting a visually arresting and thought-provoking piece that engages the mind and the senses.

Jean-Claude ByandB is a French artist born in 1949 who lives and works in Saint Cyr sur Loire in France. His artistic research was mainly influenced by the 1960s. Characterized by a feeling of both faith and anger, the 60s generated an explosion of extremely exciting and spectacular avant-garde ideologies and movements. On the one hand, the astronomical discoveries of those years impacted positively the whole world. On the other hand, they were years historically set in the context of the Cold War, largely defined by the Iron Curtain that divided Europe both physically and spiritually, and significantly marked by the construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961.
