This artwork is a compelling piece of modern sculpture featuring a tall, vertical column composed of stacked cylindrical segments. Each segment showcases a gradient of tones, transitioning from a light cream at the top through various shades of gray to a deep charcoal black at the base. The smooth texture of the segments contrasts with the dynamic visual transition of colors, creating a captivating visual rhythm. The piece exudes a sense of balance and harmony, while the gradation evokes themes of transformation and passage of time. Its minimalist design and subtle elegance make it a striking study in form and color variation. This sculptural work is a testament to the artist's ability to blend simplicity with profound conceptual depth, inviting viewers to contemplate the nuances of shading and structure.
Norigae itself originally functions as a good-luck charm hoped to bring something such as eternal youth, wealth, or many children, as well as a fashion accessory. This piece was designed with small Norigae tassels gathered to create the shape of a large Norigae tassel, in the sense of maximizing the original meaning of Norigae and bringing good fortune to the space. Wkend Lab focused on the sul, which are tassels, made out of silk thread that is colored for the purpose. They chose five different colors that show the subtle beauty of Korean traditional clothing. Therefore, designing contemporary lighting out of the forgotten accessory that they only see in historical movies and tv series nowadays was a new attempt to expand the meaning and explore new possibilities functionally.
