I was attracted to painting this building because of its rich red colour and that was the starting point for creating various colour harmonies involving violets and different shades of green in the trees which I think generate a pleasant and satisfying aesthetic ray. Although the main preoccupation of this painting is colour, which dominates over actual form, the actual building really exists, located in the city of Manchester and so the painting is also a quasi-representational one. The painting was created in 2011 but has only become available for sale recently. It was painting in acrylic paint and some ink on board. The signature, in the bottom left, appears slightly cropped off in this photographed image yet appears in full on the actual artwork.

I mostly paint unique, bizarre, sensually vibrant urban landscapes or cityscapes usually of the North of England. These cityscapes eclectically pool diverse influences and involve spontaneous, often instinctive forms of distortion expressed via colour, proportion, perspective, innate harmonious relationships and an incongruous juxtaposition of styles. Sometimes, I am specifically trying to convey existentially disorientating feelings through these techniques and sometimes other types of emotion and general sensual vibrancy. I try to walk a delicate balnce between planning what I do and allowing a painting to have a organic life of its own. My paintings have been used promotionally by the University of Lancaster, the University of Manchester, in pop videos, on book jackets, in magazines, and made into postcards by the Manchester Tourist Office. They are exhibited regularly and are in private collections around the world.
