Created in 1965, André Lanskoy's work is a limited edition print, an unnumbered edition reserved for the artist. The piece testifies to the maturity of his abstract language, where color becomes both structure and emotion. The surface is constructed from fragmented forms, broken rhythms, and vivid chromatic contrasts that come alive against a dominant blue background. Lanskoy does not depict objects; he creates an inner landscape where movement replaces narrative and where color carries all the expressive intensity.
The spirit of the School of Paris is evident: lyricism, tension, and intuitive gesture. The interweaving of angular forms and floating fragments gives the composition an impression of controlled chaos, as if the image were constantly reorganizing itself. André Lanskoy (1902-1976) is a Russian painter born in Moscow, who lived and worked in France. He is associated with the New Paris School (nouvelle école de Paris).
André Lanskoy studied in Saint-Petersburg and Kiev. He moved to Constantinopole and then to Paris in 1921, where he studied at the Grande Chaumière and decided to dedicate himself entirely to painting. Wilhelm Uhde discovered his work in 1924.
After a long period of figurative painting, André Lanskoy dedicated himself to abstraction starting in 1938.
