Vanités
Paris From February 10, 2022 to March 10, 2022
Presentation
From the ancient Greek eikonographia, Iconographia means both the art of drawing, the knowledge of the arts, the study of a subject and its representations. Armâne and Clémence, duo of photographic artists, offer through Iconographia a pictorial vision of photography, a return to its origins in the art of portraiture and compositions, inspired by the history of art. They reinvent famous masterpieces by infusing them with a feminist look, and conceive their work as an opening of the museum and art towards more modern and inclusive representations. All the art of Iconographia resides in the use and diversion of universal representation codes, in particular from painting, which are known to all. By infusing their images with a strong commitment, they give them a certain modernity and open up a dialogue on current issues. The Vanities exhibition is an opening into the world of Iconographia. It brings together recurring themes in the work of the two photographers: still lifes, allegories or even twisted paintings and religious icons. Each work presented is a custom print framed in an old frame found and restored by Armâne and Clémence, with the desire to create a unique object and to reinforce the comparison of their photographs with painting.
