Clara Ramirez Katz - Nouveaux territoires

Paris From January 1, 2019 to January 12, 2019

Presentation
Clara Ramírez Katz, in this new exhibition, continues her long exploration of spaces, surfaces and forms of nature. She achieves a poetic abstraction that metamorphoses her images into evocations of territories bathed in ancestral light, witness to the passage of human civilizations and their works. Inspired this time by the arid and charred spaces of Greece, his paintings visit, in different rectangular, oval, oblong, circular shapes, multiple hills, rocks, valleys, beaches, dry river beds, cliffs, depressions, plots, where through millennia the wind and the sun have worked and left traces on the brutalized earth's crust. Clara Ramírez Katz prepares in her workshop the colors she uses, unique in their tones, the cadmium red which collides with the vegetal green of cobalt, the turquoises, the yellows and the whites which in turn float on the ample refreshing tone of the linen of the fabrics, leaving the tables as unfinished, giving air, creating silences. The surfaces are also splashed with small oval shapes, or irregular stony textures and black like meteorites that have always fallen there, or emanations of petrified trees at the edge of the roads or on the banks of dried up rivers. The shapes and colors that irrigate the surfaces of Clara Ramirez Katz sometimes evoke the various geometric accidents caused by the work of man through the centuries, and sometimes they resemble the abandoned roads that led to the oracles guarded by the Sphinx, or to walls and columns of ruined Greek temples that can be seen from erosion. In another series, different from the journey through the shapes of islands, archipelagos, valleys, depressions or the chaotic irregularity of the shores of the sea, she explores with black lines figures inspired by classic human busts, fragments saved from Greek sculptures scattered throughout the territory, in homage to goddesses and tutelary gods, to Venus, to athletes, to nymphs. Clara Ramírez Katz's most recent work is touched by a devastating explosion of fullness and sunshine, and looking at each of the paintings in this new exhibition, diptychs, triptychs, elongated rectangles, ovals, circles, which are like windows on the landscape, we feel the fullness and maturity of a work conquered over the years and which today reaches, without a doubt, high levels of abstraction and poetic quality. In these new territories, life is present in all its forms and colors, we can guess the passage of volcanic magma on the slopes of the land, telluric ruptures, disappeared borders, erosion which reveals new secret layers of the skin. terrestrial, even more alive than those erased by wind or water. This extraordinary joy communicated to us by the images brought together for this exhibition is the fruit of the rigor of the artist's pictorial work, a solitary work that is accountable to no one except his own intuitions and obsessions. The shapes and textures of Clara Ramírez Katz's paintings remain forever etched in our memory, like those of a recently discovered planet where we get lost and at the same time find ourselves. - Eduardo Garcia Aguilar, November 2018, Translated by Stéphane Chaumet
