Presentation
Joan Capella Arenas (Montcada i Reixac, Vallès Occidental, October 27, 1927 - ibid., October 31, 2005) was a Catalan painter.
In 1945, in full youth, he was a founding member of Tertulia, a group that until its dissolution in 1957 revitalizes the cultural life of Montcada i Reixac and surrounding area.
He won the first prize of his career in 1953, in Barcelona, when he won the Santa Dorotea Prize for painting in landscape mode, which opens the doors of prestigious Catalan institutions, such as the Royal Artistic Circle of Barcelona and the Ateneo Barcelonés. [1]
Thus, a large number of exhibitions, both individual and collective, begin, especially in the Catalan sphere, but also in Spanish and international. In 1955, he participated in the III Hispano-American Art Biennale. And it is usual for the Mayo Halls that are organized in the Catalan capital during the fifties and sixties. In the middle of the seventies he became part of the group of painters of the Syra Gallery in Barcelona, and in 1985 he joined the Sala Dalmau in Barcelona, specializing in the School of Paris, where he remains until the end of your days
From the beginning, his artistic career reveals several influences: Cézanne, Rouault, Picasso, Braque, Benjamín Palencia, Bores, Ortega Muñoz, Zabaleta; all are visibly reflected in his painting without getting to undergo it. [2] Based on this master's degree, Joan Capella achieves his own style, a way of making himself disguised as an apparent simplicity. In his works, the precise treatment of color and the balanced composition of forms transform a reality that, through its serene gaze, becomes silent harmony.
Joan Capella's work has been commented by numerous art critics and relevant personalities from the world of culture:
Àngel Marsà, Joan Cortés, Alberto del Castillo, Esteve Busquets Molas, Rafael Manzano, Néstor Luján, Ernesto Foyé, Lina Font, Rafael Santos Torroella, Xavier Fàbregas, Joan Perucho, Daniel Giralt-Miracle, Fernando Gutiérrez, Lluís Terricabres, Juan Ramón Masoliver, Modest Rodríguez-Cruells, Francesc Galí, Arnau Puig, Fernando Pueyo, Jaume Socias, Martín Costa, Manuel Llano Gorostiza, Maria Elena Morató, Josep Maresma i Pedragosa, Francesc Draper, M. Batalla, Conxita Oliver, J. Llop S., José Corredor-Matheos, Miquel Alzueta, Josep M. Cadena, Juan Antonio Masoliver Ródenas, Ramon Casalé, R. Villa, Àlex Mitrani, etc.
In 1990, he began his career as a painting professor at the cultural center of the Montcada i Reixac Town Hall.
He is named favorite son of Montcada i Reixac in 1997, being the first person to whom this privilege is granted.
Joan Capella died on October 31, 2005, when he turned 78. Three years earlier, in 2002, the plenary of the Montcada i Reixac Town Hall had approved, with the approval of all the municipal groups, the acceptance of an art collection with part of the artist's work , with the commitment to maintain the unit, preserve it, exhibit it and promote it. With these main purposes, but also with the aim of promoting education, culture and art, the Joan Capella Foundation began its journey in the beginning of 2008 [3].
