Kwon Ji-an's Humming Letter #102 is a vibrant and immersive work that translates the rhythm of sound into a lush, textured landscape. As part of her renowned Humming Letter series, this piece captures the interplay of nature, movement, and sensory depth, offering an experience that is both visual and emotional.
The composition is an expansive field of rich greens, illuminated by bursts of yellow, evoking the energy of a sunlit forest or a meadow in full bloom. The textured application of paint, applied directly by the artist's hands, creates an organic, sculptural surface where every movement and gesture is preserved. Kwon's signature calligraphic script appears along the right edge, seamlessly integrated into the painting, reinforcing the connection between sound, movement, and visual form.
What sets this piece apart is its ability to create a sense of immersion. The dense layering of paint draws the viewer into a deep, almost meditative space, where the boundaries between abstraction and natural form blur. The dynamic brushwork suggests the gentle motion of leaves swaying in the wind or the vibrations of a humming melody, making the piece feel alive with energy.
Kwon Ji-an's Humming Letter series has established itself as a significant body of work, widely recognized for its ability to bridge the gap between music and painting. Humming Letter #102 is a particularly compelling example of her technique, offering a sense of depth and movement that continues to reveal new details upon each viewing.
Collectors who appreciate contemporary abstraction with a strong emotional resonance will find this piece particularly meaningful. Its large format enhances its presence, making it a striking focal point in any space. As Kwon Ji-an continues to evolve as an artist, her works are increasingly sought after by those who appreciate her unique ability to translate intangible sensations into visually expressive compositions.
This mixed-media painting is in excellent condition, professionally maintained to ensure the longevity of its vibrant hues and layered textures. The thick impasto technique creates a dynamic surface that responds to light, revealing different aspects of color and depth depending on the angle from which it is viewed. The tactile quality of the work invites close observation, making it a piece that offers an evolving experience over time.
Kwon Ji-an's transition from music to fine art has shaped her unique approach to painting, where auditory and visual elements are intrinsically linked. The Humming Letter series is an ongoing exploration of this relationship, with each work capturing a specific resonance of sound, memory, and movement. Since her debut as a visual artist in 2012, Kwon has continued to refine her expressive technique, earning recognition both in Korea and internationally.
This piece presents a rare opportunity to acquire a significant work from one of Kwon Ji-an's most recognized series. Its expressive movement, immersive color palette, and deeply layered texture make it a compelling addition to any collection, offering both visual beauty and emotional depth.

Presentation
Kwon Ji-an (born September 30, 1984), widely known as Solbi, is a South Korean multidisciplinary artist who has seamlessly transitioned from the world of K-Pop into the realm of contemporary art. Having debuted as a singer in 2006 as part of the group Typhoon, Kwon gained fame in the entertainment industry but later turned to art as a means of self-expression and healing. Over the years, she has developed a unique artistic language that blends painting, sculpture, installation, video, and performance art, earning recognition both in Korea and internationally. Kwon Ji-an's artistic journey is deeply personal, shaped by her experiences with fame, cyberbullying, and the limitations of verbal communication. She has openly shared how art became a sanctuary, allowing her to process emotions and reinvent herself beyond public scrutiny. Her works often explore themes of existence and nonexistence, the interplay of colors, and the balance between the tangible and the abstract. In her creative process, Kwon employs self-collaboration, integrating music and visual arts to form a unique convergence genre. She often forgoes traditional brushes in favor of using her hands, creating swirling landscapes filled with movement and emotion—an approach reminiscent of Impressionist masters like Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Vincent van Gogh. Additionally, she incorporates sound waves into her pieces, conceptualizing them as a “gravity of music through humming," reflecting her deep connection to auditory expression. Kwon Ji-an's first steps into the art world began with her debut solo exhibition in 2012, A Person's Way of Looking at the World, in Seoul. This marked the beginning of her evolution as an artist, leading to a series of acclaimed exhibitions. By 2015, she introduced her signature interdisciplinary approach, merging music and painting in her project TRACE, further cementing her status as an "art-tainer" —a term recognizing her ability to bridge entertainment and fine art. Her innovative contributions to contemporary art earned her the "Arttainer Division" award at the 2019 Korea First Brand Awards, highlighting her success in redefining the boundaries between pop culture and high art. "If my paintings can touch someone's heart and be part of their healing process, that would be amazing."
As she continues to push creative boundaries, Kwon Ji-an remains a compelling figure in contemporary art—an artist whose work is not just seen but felt. Her ability to transform personal struggles into powerful visual narratives has solidified her place as one of South Korea's most intriguing and influential modern artists.
