An ancient tapestry in the style of Roman mosaics, with a mythological monster at its center: the Minotaur. Made using the tufting technique, the textile work required several hours of work by the Fabrica Minervae workshop to produce the design by the Roman artist.
Inspired by ancient pavements, this contemporary tapestry blends decorative traditions and mythological narrative. The geometric frame, evoking the tessellated borders of Gallo-Roman mosaics, structures the image and guides the eye to the center, where the powerful figure of the Minotaur is enthroned. Half-man, half-bull, trapped in the famous labyrinth of Crete, this legendary monster symbolizes both uncontrolled violence and the wild side buried within each of us.
In this composition, the Minotaur is portrayed not simply as a beast slain by Theseus, but as a being both frightening and majestic, assuming its centrality. He seems to be watching us, or at least waiting for us, like a guardian from another world. With this choice of representation, the artist Rom av.JC questions the boundary between man and animal, between myth and intimacy.
The use of tufting, a contemporary textile technique that injects loops of thread into a canvas using a mechanical gun, gives the work a striking relief. Contrasting textures reinforce the tapestry's visual and symbolic density. Each loop, each zone of color is the result of a precise gesture, a carefully considered technical and aesthetic choice. This thick, warm material invites slow, almost meditative observation, reconnecting with the original function of tapestries: to envelop space with a strong visual presence, but also with warmth and meaning.
The Fabrica Minervae workshop, a key partner in the project, follows a tradition of textile craftsmanship while experimenting with new forms. By collaborating with Rom av.JC, it is helping to revive ancient images in contemporary languages, rooted in the concerns of contemporary design and hybrid practices.
The choice of the Minotaur is not insignificant: in a world of shifting reference points, this mythical creature becomes the mirror of our contradictions. Misunderstood hero or imprisoned monster, he reminds us of our dualities, our need for structure (the labyrinth) and our fear of what lies beyond us. Here, it's not just a question of décor, but of woven narrative, embroidered memory and embodied myth.
At the crossroads of imaginary archaeology, textile art and narrative design, this work is a fragment of legend, recomposed in a modern visual language. It bears witness to a desire to link past and present, manual gesture and profound symbolism, to produce a work that is both rooted in history and resolutely contemporary.

Presentation
With a board under his feet since he was 14 years old, Romain Hurdequint discovers through skateboarding graphics, a passion for art. In 2011, he decided to document in a blog all the artistic potential that skateboard offers. Ten years later, THE DAILY BOARD is still read by several thousands of visitors every month and has become a reference.
In 2018, Romain undertook the writing of an anthology entitled Skate Art: From the Object to the Artwork, published by Cercle d'Art. This anthology is found distributed all over the world, including in the prestigious museums of New York, the MOMA and the MET.
Committed to democratizing this new art to the general public, Romain organized several exhibitions in Lyon and Bordeaux. First Inking Board, for which he invited tattoo artists to cut the skin to paint on a diptych of skateboards, then Spraying Board, where street art meets skateboard. For both concepts, the entrepreneur provides the mediums with their wall hangings. The whole thing is branded Tigerclaw Supplies, a new brand on the skateboard scene of which he is the co-founder.
Rom av J.C is the artistic alter ego of Romain Hurdequint.
Armed with spray cans, acrylic, Posca or clay, he reinvents the representations of ancient leisure activities. Placing the skateboard at the heart of gladiatorial combat or the first events of the Olympic Games, the artist rewrites the history of this discipline. Shaped like jars with Greco-Roman motifs, the boards bear witness to the practice of skateboarding at a time when the city of Lyon was known as Lugdunum.
