Nueva Objetividad
La Nueva Objetividad (Neue Sachlichkeit en alemán) fue un movimiento artístico alemán que comenzó en la década de 1920 como reacción al arte expresionista. El historiador de arte alemán Gustav Friedrich Hartlaub, que también era director de la Kunsthalle de Mannheim, acuñó el término por primera vez cuando lo utilizó como título para una exposición de 1925. En esta exposición se mostraban obras de arte que rechazaban el estilo expresionista que era popular en la época. En particular, los artistas expuestos estaban en desacuerdo con el ensimismamiento y el romanticismo de los artistas expresionistas, que buscaban expresar emociones humanas e ideas abstractas a través de sus obras. También rechazaban el estilo idealizado y utópico del expresionismo, desilusionados por los horrores de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Los artistas del movimiento de la Nueva Objetividad creían, en cambio, que el arte debía reflejar el mundo contemporáneo de forma objetiva y sin sentimentalismos.
Algunas de las principales figuras del movimiento de la Nueva Objetividad fueron Otto Dix, George Grosz y Max Beckmann. Muchos de los artistas del movimiento son conocidos por sus retratos, que a menudo representan a las personas de forma naturalista e incluso satírica.
