KANO Sculpture Artsper

This sculpture, measuring 18.50 x 12 x 2.5 cm deep, in bronze, will be exhibited during the 1991 and 1992 Arts Olympiads in Paris. This work by the artist will be selected in the Japanese delegation.

Lise Cormery writes her biography in her book "The School of Paris, Post-War City of Light (1945-1999), Michelangelo Publications, Edition Paris 2020.

“Kanō Minoru 嘉野稔 (1930 Tokyo - 2007 Paris) is a Japanese sculptor. His work is part of the history of post-war abstraction art.

From 1949 to 1954 he studied at the National University of Arts in Tokyo, where in 1954 he received the Young Sculpture Prize. His talents as a sculptor were rewarded in 1957 with a scholarship from the French government to study in France, which is how he settled in Paris which would become his home. At the Beaux-Arts in Paris, he mainly attended the Atelier Janiot and from 1958 he also studied at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière with the sculptor Zadkine.

From 1959 to 1964 he devoted himself to the classical research of Romanesque Art and sculpted the life-size stone replica of "L'Éve" of the tympanum of the Saint Lazare d'Autun Cathedral sculpted by Gislebert, known as Gislebertus, French sculptor of the 12th century.

Influenced by the general trend of Parisian Salons, in 1964 he abandoned marble and stone; he then works with epoxy, a resin-based composite, and creates his famous golden sculptures in the spirit of ancestral totems.

With his exhibitions in 1965 at the Paris Biennale and in 1967 at the Tokyo Biennale, he turned to abstraction, which became the new dictatorship of a new artistic standard with wood, metals and synthetic resins which were in the spirit of the times, as for his colleague from the Post-War Paris School from Canada, Philippe Scrive, the latter allows the flexibility of forms through a more flexible and more meticulous modeling.

In 1973 he participated in the Sénart Sculpture Symposium and in 1992 he created the trophy for the “Unesco Prize for the Promotion of Art”. In 1999 he joined "The Bénézit Encyclopedia of painters, sculptors, designers and engravers, Volume 7".

PARIS ARTS OLYMPIADS 1991 - 1992

Paris Arts Olympiads In 1991 and 1992, during international events under the aegis of President Mitterrand and the Mayor of Paris, Jacques Chirac, he was selected in the Japanese delegation to represent Japan with his sculpture during the Arts Olympiads organized by the Galerie Lise Cormery, for the CNOSF, French National Olympic and Sports Committee, on the occasion of the 1992 Olympic Games in France. This international event followed the Seoul Arts Olympics where the city founded for this competition a Museum of International Paintings and a Museum of Monumental Outdoor Sculptures, with invited artists from all over the world to exhibit and represent 20th century art. century. »

Presentation

Kanō Minoru 嘉野稔 (1930 Tokyo - 2007 Paris) is a Post-War Japanese abstract sculptor. Lise Cormery writes his biography in her book "Ecole de Paris, Post-War City of Light" : "From 1949 until 1954 he studies at the National University of Tokyo and wins the Young Sculpture Prize in Tokyo in 1954, thanks to a scholarship by the French Government in 1957 he studies in Paris Beaux-Arts and settles forever in Paris. He studies as well in La Grande Chaumière School with the sculptor Zadkine. From 1959 until 1964 he devotes his art to the Roman Art, and sculpts a replica of the famous "Eve", sculpted in the XIIth Century by Gislebertus in Autun Cathedral.

In 1964 following the general trends of Paris artists and Salons he gives up the marble and the stone, and works on resin creating his famous golden Totems, in the spirit of ancestral sacred art. With his Biennale de Paris Shows in 1965 and Tokyo, he definitely gets into abstract, the new Art Dictatorship, with wood, metals and synthetic resins, in the same way, Philippe Scrive, Post-War Ecole de Paris sculptor from Canada, did. In 1973 he participates to the Sénart Sculpture Symposium and in 1992 Kano realizes the "Unesco Prize" trophy. In 1999 his art is published in the Bénézit Encyclopedia of Art.

PARIS ART OLYMPIADS In 1991 and 1992, under the High Patronage of French President Mitterrand and Jacques Chirac, Mayor of Paris, KANO was selected for the delegation of Japan with his sculpture to represent Japan, during the Art Olympiads organized by Lise Cormery Gallery for the CNOSF, French Olympic Committee. This international event was following the famous 1988 Art Olympiads in Seoul, South Korea, where a monumental sculpture Museum in open air and a Museum of International paintings was created for the world competition, in order to invite and show the art of major international artists of the 20th century.
