serie “Whimsical Plexiworlds and Pokémon Houses : Kawaii Haven".

“Sunset Squirtle: Princess Saori's Kawaii Realm" is a standout piece by Saori Nakamishi, a trailblazing neo-pop artist from the innovative Japanese studio, CrazyNoodles. Part of her enchanting series “Whimsical Plexiworlds and Pokémon Houses: Kawaii Haven," this artwork is a vivid narrative that weaves together elements of fantasy, nostalgia, and cultural symbolism.
At the heart of this piece lies an iridescent Plexiglass house, catching the eye with its captivating orange reflections that mimic the warm, soothing hues of a setting sun. This choice of color is no mere aesthetic decision; it is a deliberate nod to the nostalgia of long, peaceful evenings, perhaps reminiscent of Nakamishi's own childhood memories. The orange glow serves as a backdrop that both illuminates and enshrines the central character of the piece – a Squirtle plush.
Squirtle, a beloved Pokémon known for its affinity with water and its spirited personality, is more than a character here. In Nakamishi's hands, it becomes a symbol of joy and the enduring appeal of childhood adventures. Placed within the orange-hued house, Squirtle seems to be basking in the glow of an eternal sunset, a guardian of innocence and playful escapades.
Adding a layer of personal touch to the artwork is the kawaii sentence “Saori is a kawaii princess." This phrase, infused with a sense of whimsy and self-reflection, is more than just an inscription; it is a window into Nakamishi's soul. It speaks of her identification with the playful, the cute, and the imaginative realms she creates. By referring to herself as a 'kawaii princess,' Nakamishi both embraces and celebrates the youthfulness and charm central to the kawaii culture.
“Sunset Squirtle: Princess Saori's Kawaii Realm" is not just an artwork; it's a vibrant story that invites the viewer into a whimsical world. Each element, from the glowing Plexiglass to the Squirtle plush, works in harmony to create a narrative of nostalgia, fantasy, and self-expression. It's a piece that encourages the viewer to pause and reflect, to remember the joy of youth, and to appreciate the playful serenity that art can bring to our busy lives.
In essence, this artwork by Saori Nakamishi is a celebration of the whimsical, an ode to the power of imagination, and a tribute to the enduring charm of kawaii culture in contemporary art. It stands as a testament to Nakamishi's skill in creating worlds that are at once deeply personal and universally appealing, inviting us all to step into the realm of “Princess Saori" and rediscover the magic of childhood once more.

Presentation

Saori Nakamishi studied aesthetics and art, after she finished her studies she decided to focus all of her talent on creating original illustrations, highly influenced by Manga. She currently lives and works in Japan.

Her work is mainly realistic, yet deeply influenced by manga aesthetics and its topics. In her illustrations, She depicts beautiful and sexy young women, in a Lolita style. Erotic but innocent images of girls, with names like Cherry, Angel, Jewel or Heart surrounded by numerous fantastical creatures or symbols. Saori Nakamishi combines traditional Japanese manga and neo-pop colors in her works.

In 2005, she worked with the artist Hiro Ando to create an studio called "Crazynoodles Studio", dedicated to the promotion of young neo-pop artists inspired by Manga and Kitsch. Today the Studio represents 15 artists and distributes their work everywhere around the world, from Paris to Tokyo with a total freedom of expression. Crazynoodles tries to fight against western, somewhat elitist, art.
