Kwon Ji-an's Humming Letter #108 is a beautifully compact yet deeply expressive piece from her renowned Humming Letter series. Though small in scale, this work carries the same intensity and depth that define her larger compositions, offering a richly textured surface where movement and color converge in perfect harmony.
The painting radiates with lush greens, deep blacks, and striking yellows, evoking the vibrancy of a sunlit meadow or a dense forest bathed in golden light. Kwon's unique technique—applying paint directly with her hands—creates an immersive, tactile quality that makes each stroke feel raw and organic. The thick impasto application enhances the depth of the work, giving it a sculptural presence that interacts dynamically with light and shadow.
A defining element of Humming Letter #108 is the white, handwritten script that flows across the upper portion of the canvas. This signature motif is an integral part of Kwon's artistic language, reinforcing her exploration of the connection between visual art and sound. The raised text appears almost like a melodic imprint, a whispered phrase frozen in time, adding a layer of conceptual depth to the piece.
As part of Kwon Ji-an's acclaimed Humming Letter series, this work holds significance in her artistic evolution, embodying her signature fusion of sound, emotion, and abstract expression. Its compact size makes it an intimate yet impactful addition to any collection, offering a refined glimpse into her textural world.
Collectors who appreciate contemporary abstraction with a strong emotional resonance will find this piece particularly compelling. Its three-dimensional texture and expressive movement make it a dynamic work that evolves with light and viewing angle. Framed elegantly, it stands as both a self-contained statement and a complementary piece to a larger collection.
This mixed-media painting is in pristine condition, professionally preserved to maintain its vivid pigments and sculptural texture. The impasto technique gives it a highly tactile surface, inviting close examination to fully appreciate its intricate layering and organic flow. Its dimensions make it versatile for display, whether as a standalone piece or part of a curated collection.
Kwon Ji-an's Humming Letter series is a reflection of her journey from music to visual art, where sound and painting exist in an interconnected dialogue. Each work in the series captures an abstract interpretation of melody, memory, and movement. Since her first solo exhibition in 2012, Kwon has continuously refined this approach, earning recognition for her ability to transform intangible emotions into tangible compositions.
This piece offers collectors a unique opportunity to engage with Kwon Ji-an's evolving artistic practice. Its layered textures, sculptural presence, and poetic composition make it a work that resonates far beyond its physical dimensions, offering both visual beauty and conceptual depth.

Presentation
Kwon Ji-an (born September 30, 1984), widely known as Solbi, is a South Korean multidisciplinary artist who has seamlessly transitioned from the world of K-Pop into the realm of contemporary art. Having debuted as a singer in 2006 as part of the group Typhoon, Kwon gained fame in the entertainment industry but later turned to art as a means of self-expression and healing. Over the years, she has developed a unique artistic language that blends painting, sculpture, installation, video, and performance art, earning recognition both in Korea and internationally. Kwon Ji-an's artistic journey is deeply personal, shaped by her experiences with fame, cyberbullying, and the limitations of verbal communication. She has openly shared how art became a sanctuary, allowing her to process emotions and reinvent herself beyond public scrutiny. Her works often explore themes of existence and nonexistence, the interplay of colors, and the balance between the tangible and the abstract. In her creative process, Kwon employs self-collaboration, integrating music and visual arts to form a unique convergence genre. She often forgoes traditional brushes in favor of using her hands, creating swirling landscapes filled with movement and emotion—an approach reminiscent of Impressionist masters like Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Vincent van Gogh. Additionally, she incorporates sound waves into her pieces, conceptualizing them as a “gravity of music through humming," reflecting her deep connection to auditory expression. Kwon Ji-an's first steps into the art world began with her debut solo exhibition in 2012, A Person's Way of Looking at the World, in Seoul. This marked the beginning of her evolution as an artist, leading to a series of acclaimed exhibitions. By 2015, she introduced her signature interdisciplinary approach, merging music and painting in her project TRACE, further cementing her status as an "art-tainer" —a term recognizing her ability to bridge entertainment and fine art. Her innovative contributions to contemporary art earned her the "Arttainer Division" award at the 2019 Korea First Brand Awards, highlighting her success in redefining the boundaries between pop culture and high art. "If my paintings can touch someone's heart and be part of their healing process, that would be amazing."
As she continues to push creative boundaries, Kwon Ji-an remains a compelling figure in contemporary art—an artist whose work is not just seen but felt. Her ability to transform personal struggles into powerful visual narratives has solidified her place as one of South Korea's most intriguing and influential modern artists.
