The oil painting on Canvas titled "Winter Twilight" captures the profound stillness and serenity of a winter landscape just as the light of day transitions into the cool calm of evening. Dominated by deep, rich blues, the painting immediately evokes the crisp chill of a snow-covered world and the quiet majesty of nature in its most minimalist season. The composition is simple yet striking, featuring a handful of tall, resilient pine trees standing against an expansive sky, their silhouettes painted with expressive texture and color. The snowy foreground is rendered in cool tones of pale blue, white, and subtle hints of lavender, layered with confident brushstrokes that suggest both the smoothness and unevenness of freshly fallen snow. Soft tracks, perhaps left by skis or a passing sled, carve a gentle path through the snow, drawing the viewer's gaze toward the horizon. The trees rise tall and vertical against the vast sky, their dark green and earthy brown tones contrasting beautifully with the surrounding whiteness. The artist has painted the pines with great sensitivity, capturing the way their branches stretch skyward, touched with traces of snow and subtly lit from the side by fading sunlight. Their presence is both comforting and solemn, guardians of the landscape in a time when life slows down and quiet prevails. The sky — a vivid, captivating indigo — dominates the upper half of the canvas. This deep twilight blue is not just a backdrop, but a mood in itself. It holds the last light of the day and hints at the coming night, creating a powerful emotional tone of solitude, introspection, and peaceful contemplation. There are no clouds, no birds, no movement in the sky — only the immense, open silence that twilight brings. In the distance, the faint shapes of bare trees and dark underbrush suggest the outline of a forest or a distant field, but they remain undefined, softly blending into the purple and blue shadows. This lack of detail reinforces the painting's mood of calm and mystery, allowing the viewer to focus on the interplay of light and shadow, color and texture.

Presentation

Born in 1960 in Konotop, Sumy Region, Ukraine.

1984 - Graduated from Yuriev-Polsky Pedagogical School (Department of Art and Graphics).

Worked as a drawing and drafting teacher, painting and wood carving instructor, artist-designer.

Held the position of Chief Artist in Konotop.

Since 2000 - Independent artist.

Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.

Works by Boris Serdyuk are held in museums in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions, as well as in private collections in Ukraine, European countries, the USA, Israel, and other countries.

In 2018, the artist entered the global art space of the creative platform in New York, where seven of his works were included in the catalog "Painting & Graphics."

Currently lives and works in Kremenchuk, Poltava Region.

Took his first steps in the world of visual arts within the walls of his local school, then studied at Yuriev-Polsky Pedagogical School. After graduation, he returned to his homeland and started working as a drawing and painting teacher.

Later, he realized that for an artist, creative freedom is essential. Thus, after seventeen years of teaching, he left the profession to focus on his creative work. The artist is content to have the opportunity to engage in his beloved craft, which he considers the meaning of his life.

His journey had its ups and downs, victories in competitions, and recognition from admirers, yet he never ceased his determined quest for his artistic path. In ancient times, "serdyuk" referred to professional infantrymen in the Cossack ranks. This heritage likely passed down not only the surname but also many Cossack traits to the artist, including hard work, modesty, and human dignity.

Boris Serdyuk creates in genres such as portrait, landscape, and thematic composition. His works are varied, reflecting the artist's impressions of the places he visited. Among them are picturesque corners of Kremenchuk and Dnipro views, urban and maritime landscapes, the grandeur of the Carpathian Mountains, and cozy Ukrainian villages. His canvases are intriguing in terms of color and relatively compositionally perfect, revealing the life of nature at the time of their execution.

There are also commissioned portraits and paintings, such as "Shevchenko in Baturyn." He spent over a year working on it, studying the architecture of the former hetman capital. However, the artist prefers to work swiftly, capturing the vision of a painting before it fades from his mind and before the sun changes its angle and shadows. On average, according to the artist, he spends about 40 minutes on a single landscape.

Boris successfully combines a poetic perception of the world and a deep understanding of nature with brilliant artistic execution. His paintings exude a special light and a delicate sense of nature – vivid colors on the canvas resonate with intermediate tones. The artist has abandoned contours, replacing them with separate and contrasting brushstrokes; his paintings amaze with colors, not only their diversity but also the amount of substance applied to the canvas – vibrant, vivid, voluminous.

Describing the master's works is a challenging task. Boris Serdyuk's works are special – they are painted with soul. One must see and feel the wonderful harmony of nature on the artist's canvases firsthand and touch the great mystery of Art.
